Online CCG vs. Physical CCG

Postby MysticalCube on March 3rd, 2010, 6:01 pm

I always enjoy a good card game. Nothing like slapping a friend in the face (or an opponent) with a strategically planned deck.

I like the idea of collecting CCGs but it eventually starts to burn a hole in my pocket and I don’t have much to start with being a college student. There are also very few online CCGs available like MapleStory iTCG Online. I like the idea of being able to sit down in front of my computer and play a few rounds with others online, but I also like being able to get together with some friends, dish out some cards while eating the healthiest dinner ever, pizza.

So what do you think the trade off is online CCG vs. physical CCG?

Nothing will ever be able to replicate, or replace for that matter, hanging out with friends building/testing new decks and making trades. The whole experience is something that I have greatly missed since this card game ended.

To throw a little randomness:

I have a couple friends that live a good 30min away, no point in driving that far just for a game of Magi Nation.
So we figured out how to play online with each other.
In Second Life we built a unique card battle system, mainly for Magi Nation.
Works out the same way as if playing in real life, almost easier, and we have an audience too.

For sure the tangible experience of card gaming is better in almost every way. Face to face interaction with your fellow card players is so much more enjoyable (minus that one guy who hasn't discovered how to use a shower). But seriously, the actual game play itself is a lot of enjoyable and interesting than if you are playing online. The game is so much more cut and dried online, sure you get to play the game just the same, but it doens't have the same feel to it. On the other hand, in the current situation, online play makes play....well, possible. It would really be nice to see something like a new g-engine client for magi nation, I play the game like....a few times a year, enough to satiate nostalgia, but more would always be better. Plus when you are playing your friends, you already know thier decks and whatnot, playing strangers online does add a bit to the competitive nature of the game. Anywho just my two cents on the subject.

I used to play with a bunch of my friends aswell.. we'd all meet up and hang for a few hours, enjoy the game, argue about strategy... now we all live too far away to play, I've resorted to teaching my GF how to play >_<, oh boy does she suck, xD.

something online for Magi would be awesome, in view of it's lack of playability thesedays. :(

Magi-Nation is still playable online, all you need is a SecondLIfe account.

Come on! We need more players. :P

Go to the dukenostalgia site and save images of the cards you have in your deck into a folder on your computer, that will be your "virtual deck". You will still need your real deck to play.

Make your SecondLIfe account. if you are under age 18 then the system will not allow you to be on the same grid as us.

Login to the client, just to see if it works on your computer.

Then go to http://modularsystems.sl/downloads.html
download and install the most recent client

After instalation, start up the Emerald Viewer and login to your secondlife account.

What is your SecondLife account name?
